Yes, I KNOW it was just 9 hours. And that its not as big a deal as I'm making it out to be. And I realize there could have been other ways to facilitate solving the problem. But the fact remains he did NOT cancel within the prescribed time! I mean come ON! How can we expect our children to learn to follow "the rules" when we bend and twist and scream our way around them each and every day? What's the point in having rules if they just serve as an exercise in finding a loophole? I don't get it.
Now I do understand there are some rules that should not be followed. that may be hurtful or cause more problems than they're trying to prevent. But instead of blatantly going against them right out of the gate, wouldn't it be better to discuss all options with all the parties involved FIRST? You never know what the outcome may be. The enforcer of that rule may agree completely with the other point of view and not enforce the rule at all. Or the rule might be amended or even changed completely. We won't know until we talk about it. I guess it just pisses me off to witness people acting so far above everyone else. As if the rules only apply to "other people...not to ME."
I've seen Sir do it with bills he's forgotten to pay. The man still writes and mails in checks. Yes - I'm serious, NO - I do NOT have a good reason for this behavior. He threw a hissy fit once when he was slapped with a late fee on a monthly bill. Went all nutso-cukoo yelling at the customer service person "YOU must have lost the check - I've NEVER had a late payment ONCE..." Although clearly he never wrote the check as I could still see it there in his checkbook. (Yes, he still has one of those, too.) And I also recall him participating in this same screaming match on previous occasions. So both loud statements were completely false. He felt all vindicated and smug when the late fee was waived - but I felt ashamed for being in the same room. and mortified that our kids heard the entire exchange. Even my part of it where I pointed out that he never sent the check AND that he's done this several times before.
What the hell point did that serve? That he had the ability to scream his way out of a well deserved late fee? Well CONGRATU-freakin-LATIONS! How proud of yourself you must feel. I wonder if he knew the people on the other end of the line were just chalking it up as yet another unpleasant encounter with an entitled A-hole? And we have the gall to wonder about the upcoming generation and why they seem to take no responsibility for their own actions. Hmmmmm..
